What is Lipoedema?

Friends at the Beach
What is Lipoedema?

A common Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue (SAT) condition affecting mostly women

How common is it?

Lipoedema affects approximately 11% of adult women. (In Australia that would account for 1.4 million women).

When do people start to notice it?

Generally, Lipoedema occurs during hormonal shifts.

Disproportionate distribution of fatty tissue

Contrary to traditional beliefs, there are many differences between obesity and Lipoedema. The disproportionate distribution of adipose (fatty) tissue is just one example of this.

Weight Loss

Lipoedema fat is resistant to weight loss via calorie-restricting diets and exercise.

Commonly associated conditions

Not exclusive to:

  • Hypermobility

  • Joint issues

  • Lymphatic/vascular dysfunction

  • Metabolic issues

Testimonials

"Lois and now Zoe have changed my life. I came to see Lois in March with a suspicion I had Lipoedema, from the moment I met her I felt so comfortable and knew I was in good hands. Over the past 8 months with the knowledge Lois and Zoe have given me on how to manage Lipoedema, I have managed to lose weight, go from leg pain every single day to maybe twice a month depending on my work and realising I can wear shorts with confidence and I have nothing to be ashamed of.
If you want someone that will embrace you like a warm hug and help you through this diagnosis these are your girls."
