How common is it?
Lipoedema affects approximately 11% of adult women. (In Australia that would account for 1.4 million women).
When do people start to notice it?
Generally, Lipoedema occurs during hormonal shifts.
Disproportionate distribution of fatty tissue
Contrary to traditional beliefs, there are many differences between obesity and Lipoedema. The disproportionate distribution of adipose (fatty) tissue is just one example of this.
Weight Loss
Lipoedema fat is resistant to weight loss via calorie-restricting diets and exercise.
